Norwegian International School is situated in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria. Port Harcourt is an industrial town, located in the southern part of Nigeria. It is also a major oil producing city in the region.
Norwegian International School began in 1983 with two teachers and approximately twelve students. The school was founded in order to meet the needs of the expatriates working for Eastern Bulkcem Cement Company.
As the years went by, NIS grew and children from other companies began to attend NIS. Today, the school is enriched with different nationalities and continues to provide top quality international education to children from ages 12 months to 16 years old.

OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

TEACHERS | ADVISORS | COUNSELLORS | TECHNICAL STAFF
At NIS, our talented multi-disciplinary staff work hard to meet the aim of making the entire school community a safe, happy, learning and growing place. We believe that the students' time in school is the first part of their journey to reaching their goals, and so we work towards making them better believers in themselves. In doing this, they come to us as students and leave us as confident, lifelong learners.
A PLACE TO GROW
Our school benefits from impressive facilities that enables us to offer a vast range of learning and growing opportunities, both in and out of the classrooms. These include but are not limited to two swimming pools, fully equipped ICT suite, sick bay, football pitch, basketball court, badminton court, volleyball court, music studio, library, subject rooms, dance studio, and a 500seater capacity multipurpose hall.
BUILDING SKILLS FOR LIFE
Our vision is to help each child identify their potential and sufficiently equip each child to attain it. To help do this, we have designed a range of after school activities for our student inclusive of:
Martial Arts: Taekwondo
The Arts: Cooking and baking, kiddies' art and craft, ballet and contemporary dance, ankara works, sewing, and the art of public speaking
Science and Technology: Maths and science, and young engineers

SMALL CLASS SIZES
With smaller classes, students and their teachers form an intimate family, allowing for enhanced individual and group learning opportunities. NIS has a long-standing policy of a maximum of 15 students in a class, with 13 being the average. Where a class has up to 16 or more students, the class would be split into two.
A PLACE WHICH HELPS YOU REACH YOUR GOALS
At NIS, we believe that one of the best ways for students to strengthen their leadership skills, build character, gain experience, develop a global mind set and contribute to the school community is to take on formal leadership roles. We have created service opportunities through our house system, assembly system, student council system and global festivities that remind us of exemplary people and events that inspire us to be all and to do all. Students who assume leadership roles play a major part in keeping our school community fun, vibrant, healthy, safe and inclusive.
