Curriculum

The curriculum at Start-Rite Schools is rich and integrated. From Early Years through to Secondary School, everything is designed to enrich the lives of our students. Our learning spaces are more than just classrooms and labs. They are hubs where the culture of excellence is cultivated; where our future is created; where future leaders learn what they need to do to ensure a better and progressive society. Click on any of the blocks below to learn more.

Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage
Children are welcome into a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where attention is paid to their social, physical and cognitive development. In this stage, play underpins all development and learning for young children. The learning activities are designed to ensure children enjoy learning and grow in confidence towards achieving their full potential.

Play Group
It is a new world when toddlers take to their feet. They walk, talk and begin to develop relationships with each other. Toddlers are terrific learners and active leaders. They are beginning to understand group play and becoming better at communicating their thoughts. This is why our play-group programme is designed to:

* provide sensory experiences that emphasise the importance of their environment and relationships;
* emphasise language development to help children turn their ideas into words and sentences;
* facilitate group activities to practice social skills such as co-operation, sharing and taking turns;

The teachers and caregivers provide an unparalleled level of interaction while individually nurturing each child. The environment is designed to keep children excited and busy as they are engaged. This makes for a stimulating day for toddlers.

A foundation for reading success begins as early as the first few months of life. Introducing toddlers to books and languages nourishes early literacy development. Toddlers focus on first words and phrases, vocabulary development, following simple directions and identifying and naming familiar items. They continue to develop their languages and communication skill through stories, singing, word games, and conversations throughout the day.

Toddlers need an environment that is interesting to explore, safe and filled with caring teachers who respond to their emotional and intellectual needs. Our program offers children a variety of fun, stimulating activities such as matching and sorting, exploring colours, counting and categorising objects.

As toddlers learn more about themselves and their abilities become aware of their social setting, they are provided opportunities for group experience which helps them gain an awareness of others and a group identity.

Pre-Nursery/Nursery
As your child progresses from Playgroup to Pre-Nursery to Nursery, exploring art materials and experiencing music, dance, and drama is key. Our experienced teachers reinforce important development objectives through creative art activities, designed to build relevant skills and ignite the passion for learning. Because children are naturally curious and love to explore the world around them, we have designed our classrooms to enrich their learning experiences and are well-equipped to support safe exploration so your children have room to discover, build motor skills, and improve co-ordination.

At these levels, activities focus on experimenting with space to develop balance, hand/eye co-ordination, participation in creative movements to music and more. Your child will love our outdoor play areas that are designed for nature study, climbing and sliding.

Primary
Over the years Start-Rite Schools has built a reputation amongst industry and educators, locally and globally, as an award-winning school well-known for high academic standards, values-based education and creative excellence.

Our Curriculum
In our primary school, the curriculum is designed to enrich the learning experiences of the pupils from Years 1 to 6. The programme we run, provides a rich classroom environment where children are encouraged to explore and challenged to learn, while making friends and developing self-confidence. They strengthen their cognitive skills with fun memory games in which they match objects that share similar characteristics. Since children learn best by doing, we provide opportunities for hands-on experiences.

To ensure every day is a great day for your child, our caring, experienced teachers create activities that combine both learning and fun. Our curriculum is organised into theme-based units, beginning with topics most familiar to children. As children develop their skills and confidence, our teachers address more complex topics. These thematic units, prompt discussion about the world and do so in an enthusiastic environment. Each unit incorporates languages, mathematics, science, creative arts, music, motor skills and social development.

Group time is also an integral part of a child's day at Start-Rite Schools. Children are invited to listen, share, take turns, co-operate, demonstrate curiosity and give feedback. These social development skills support a child's ability to flourish in a classroom environment and demonstrate new learning while having fun!
Learning Support
In addition to our enriched curriculum which includes Reading, Languages, Arts, Mathematics, Basic Science & Technology, ICT, Social Studies, Music and Physical Education. Start-Rite Schools provides Learning Support in the areas of English and Mathematics.

Learning Support is a short term support program designed to assist with progress. This ensures an equal opportunity for success by addressing barriers to and promoting engagement in learning.

Secondary School
Start-Rite Day Secondary School is committed to engaging best practices and delivering high-quality education for all students. By exposing them to unique in-the-moment learning experiences, our students are provided opportunities, challenges and encouragement to develop their potential and skills to the full so that they can be successful, fulfilled citizens of the future.

Start-Rite Day Secondary School seeks to raise leaders with character, competence and capacity. As such, we have fully adopted the STEAM Learning Approach which exemplifies raising individuals who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration and work through creative processes to be relevant and productive in an ever-evolving world.

Features and Amenities

Corporate Social Responsibility

Developing a Sense of Service
We all want to raise respectful, kind children who are willing to help those in need. Children gradually develop their ability to show empathy, compassion, and social awareness. You can instill the idea of helping others and doing charity work in children from a very young age.

We take pride in raising children who have a sense of service to others. Children learn that a little help can go a long way, whether you are talking about donating money or volunteering time. They learn that if we all do our part, even in a small way, it can make a huge impact.

Community Service
Community Service can have a lot of positive effects on children, such as helping them to develop skills, making contacts and allowing them to improve the quality of life for others.

Charities
Charity is incredibly important, it teaches compassion and empathy. Charity makes children more aware of the world and teaches them to care for those less fortunate than themselves, and that knowledge and understanding stays with the children their whole life.

Volunteering
Despite their age, children can have a powerful impact in the community, if only we encourage them to do so. Volunteering teaches children valuable life skills, such as working with others and following directions which create positive life behaviours.

Robotics and Coding

We have implemented a whole-school Robotics and Coding Programme to embed digital technologies based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) principles. The learning experiences and level of engagement is appropriate for the ages and abilities of students in each year level, equipping them with 21st Century learning skills.

Computational Thinking
As students go through the programme, they acquire insight into the power of logic and explore the possibilities of programming. With programming, students will learn how to automate tasks, turn ideas/perceptions into actions and come up with ways to make smart decisions, even if in unfamiliar terrains.

International Learning

International Mindedness
International learning is a comprehensive approach to education that intentionally prepares students to be active and engaged participants in an interconnected world. We aim to ensure that pupils have a knowledge of other world regions and cultures and that they are familiar with international and global issues. Whilst developing skills in working effectively in global or cross-cultural environments, and are able to use information from different sources around the world.

Global Citizenship
With our comprehension language programmes we also ensure they have the ability to communicate in multiple languages. We actively encourage pupils towards respect and concern for other cultures and peoples.

Leadership Programme

Before young people or adults can imbibe leadership skills and roles in the community, they should have some foundational skills to arm them with more control over their own growth, development and lives.

Some of these skills are learned in academic classrooms, and some, outside the classrooms. Young people need to learn how to present themselves at all times, be it in a class presentation, interviews, how to conduct themselves when at school, home, external environment, and how to be team members and work well with others through collaboration and compromise, among many other essential life skills.

Leadership skills and life skills scheme give the students a chance to develop these skills and prepare them not only for better employment opportunities but also for more substantial and influential ways to be leaders.

For young people, assuming leadership roles and working to better the community are important parts of developing fully into adulthood. These critical skill sets are reinforced by succeeding in school, having solid parental support and positive mentors, valuing good self-esteem, and contributing service to others.

Summer Splash

During the long holidays, children do not need to be at home with nothing to do. At Start-Rite Schools, we believe that children should be productively engaged during the long break. The regular school year can be a busy time, with children not always having the time to truly explore everything on offer. With our fantastic summer programme, your child has an opportunity to be exposed to a variety of new things, with the possibility of introducing them to a new interest or skill they have never experienced before. The Start-Rite Summer Splash Programme tends towards the physical, personal and intellectual growth of the child.
Whether you are looking to ensure that your child remains occupied during the summer or want to aid in their overall growth and development; Start-Rite Summer Splash programme is a fantastic option.

If you would like to learn more about our Summer Splash Programme, please call 08106334006, 07065636067, 08182643930.
