ABOUT THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM FOR CHILDREN
The Creative Curriculum balances both teacher-directed and child-initiated learning, with an emphasis on responding to children's learning styles and building on their strengths and interests. This curricula applies the latest theory and research on best practices in teaching and learning and the content standards developed by states and professional organizations. While keeping the original environmentally-based approach it clearly defines the teacher's vital role in connecting kids to content, teaching, and learning for preschool children.
Los Angeles
The Creative Curriculum for Preschool translates new research and theory from the field of early childhood education into a practical, easy-to-understand approach to working with children and their families. It is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear organizational structure and a particular focus on interest areas.
The Curriculum is based on foundational learning theory of children drawing from the scholastic works of notable academics like Maslow, Erikson, Piaget, Smilanksy and others and based on well documented studies on Learning and the Brain and Learning and Resiliency. The Goals of the curriculum are presented in the form of a learning continuum, with an increased focus on social and emotional skills that children need to succeed in school and in life.
It looks at a number of important issues in designing developmentally appropriate learning activities for children including the role of the Family, the Learning Environment, the Role of Teachers and some of the more specific issues around how children develop and learn, and what children should learn.cretche and morning ring 113.
In applying the Curriculum to Pre-School Children we focus on a number of important learning areas including: Blocks; Dramatic Play; Toys and Games; Art; Library; Discovery; Sand and Water; Music & Movement; Cooking; Computers and Outdoors.
CO-CURRICULAR
A healthy mind in a healthy body is the key to all-round development, and there is a wide range of co-curricular activities at CLIS to ensure this. Some activities are run during the lunch hour and others take place after School, at special or designated times. We encourage all pupils to take advantage of as many activities as possible. We expect all pupils to involve themselves in at least one co-curricular activity each term. We believe skills development should be embedded in academic programmes, rather than an add-on, to give students the best chance of shaping their future.
SWIMMING
Swimming is a popular activity at CLIS. We enjoy the use of our own swimming pool, which offers fun in a safe environment for our pupils.
SPELLING BEE
The Edison school spelling bee takes place in November. Top spellers from Edison (grades 5-8) compete for a chance to be the overall top speller and winner of our spelling bee competition. Congratulations to our 2015 Winner.
BALLET
Ballet lessons are a wonderful way for kids to reap the health benefits of dance as well as learn self-discipline and body control. Ballet is a more structured dancing lesson focusing on developing physical skills, musicality and performance by imaginative stories on board the 'Ballet Train'. Music and Movement offers a more creative outlet with child led tasks.
Our ballet classes hold every Tuesday and Wednesday. Pupils get to learn Ballet and Music and Movement. By learning the art of movement, we hope to inspire a sense of physical and mental confidence and foster a respect for the arts.
MUSIC CLASSES
Effect of music in children is awesome. Scientific studies show that learning the do-re-mis can help children excel in ways beyond the basic ABCs. Children who have a good exposure to music tend to have more intelligence than other kids.
At CLIS, we expose our pupils to learn the foundation music and build their skills up on the instruments - piano, violin, etc.
