Our Mission Statement

To be the educational institution of choice where children are equipped to take up leadership roles to help shape our changing world

Admission Requirements

We appreciate that choosing the right school is an important decision for parents and their children. Each September between 100–120 students join Atlantic Hall. They join a dedicated learning community of approximately 650 students & 250 academic and operational staff.

Our excellent examination results might suggest that we accept only highly academic students: the reality is we are looking for students who have potential and a positive attitude to learning. Essentially, a comprehensive intake. Our admissions process is designed towards getting to know candidates, their inherent skills, talents and their ambitions. We want students to enjoy pursuing their academic interests, and live as aspiring leaders anxious to make their contribution to college life & subsequently in an increasingly challenging world.

Students joining at JSS1 or Year 7 must be 10 years old by September of the year of entry and have completed six (6) full years of Primary education.

All those who join Atlantic Hall must take the entrance examinations. These examinations take place annually in January & February in Atlantic Hall and at various centres in Lagos and across other cities in Nigeria. Special arrangements are made for those who wish to join Atlantic Hall but reside abroad.

We look forward to welcoming you to become a part of our wonderful learning community.

Parents who are interested in applying for a place at Atlantic Hall must purchase an application form online, at the school campus, or one of our designated centres. The cost of the application form is N15, 000. Application forms should be submitted with a copy of the child’s birth certificate.

Subsequently the child will be invited to sit for the examination. There is also an opportunity for parents and guardians to make enquiries from staff in attendance, during the examination.

Students seeking admission into JSS 1/Year 7 will take the standard entrance examination consisting of three papers (English, Mathematics and Non-verbal Reasoning).

This will last approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The tests are designed to assess and analyse a candidate’s current academic level, taking into account the prior level learning within the context of the national Primary curriculum at a level to Primary Year 5. There are no practice papers. The school simply wants to know the individual applicants academic level relative to the three papers on the day.

Following the examination, all papers are carefully marked and cross-checked. The results of these papers allow us to place your child accurately and determine if a place is to be offered. We also use them to identify the children who qualify for our academic scholarships.

Please note: We do not disclose the marks attained, or discuss the results with parents

A Full scholarship which is awarded to the candidate who achieves the highest score in the Entrance Examination (no less than 90% and above).
A Partial scholarship is awarded to the candidate that comes second in the Entrance Examination.

Successful candidates into JS1 will be notified via telephone, a confirmation email and a letter delivered by courier. You are expected to confirm acceptance of the offered admission with a non-refundable deposit. This deposit will be deducted from the child’s First Term fees.

It is imperative to act quickly to confirm your interest and you will have approximately 3 weeks to guarantee a place. As a matter of policy, we do not publish or discuss candidates’ scores.

The school will provide an admission pack with all school information, the long-term calendar, and uniform lists. Uniforms are available from designated outfitters. It is important to organize and book items well ahead of resumption.

Transfer Students

For students joining at JS2 and other classes, the offer of admission is made following the submission of completed questionnaires, reference letters (for Nigerian & international students) and recent reports from the child’s previous school.

Transfer students are also required to sit for examinations:

English language, Mathematics and Basic science for Junior Secondary School
English language, Mathematics and Biology for Senior Secondary School

Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT-4)

For those that are offered a place and subsequently enroll, the school administers a CAT 4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) to all incoming students. This is an online testing designed by GL Education. GL Education is the United Kingdom’s leading provider of high-quality & research based assessments for children’s education. GL Education provides schools with tools to deliver personalized learning that improves attainment and ensures that each student reaches their potential; in a ‘whole-pupil approach’ to assessment that delivers a holistic view of students.

New students are carefully monitored, academically and pastorally. Their progress is recorded by written reports at the end of each term, and via at least one Parents’ Meeting for your child’s age group each year. Should the school administration have any concerns, the parents or guardians will be contacted immediately. Parents and guardians are also able to contact the child’s Class Teacher, Head of Year or Head of Boarding to assist.

In order to have 360 degree view of our students, we have introduced another test from GL Assessment called PASS (Pupils Attitude to Self and School). PASS is a short self-evaluation survey that is used to gain insight into attitudes that could be hindering achievement including issues around confidence, resilience, motivation, concentration, disaffection and alienation. By comparing CAT4 and PASS results we will be able to identify fragile learners who are not achieving their potential due to attitudinal barriers. Just like CAT4 reports, PASS reports will also be shared with parents. In Atlantic Hall, we want each child to feel that every lesson has been personalised and designed specifically to meet their needs.

Future Plans

Awards & Achievements

Our curriculum is a unique fusion of the Nigerian and British curricula. The school is divided into the Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary sections. In Junior School the students spend three years and take two end-of-course examinations; The Lagos State Basic Certificate of Education (BECE) and Checkpoint, organized by Cambridge International Examination (CIE).

Students spend 3 years in Senior School. At the end of the second year (SS2) students sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations and in their final year (SS3) they take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) organized by WAEC.

As part of our mission to deliver 21st Century premium education, the combined dual curriculum is constantly being redesigned and refined to create in delivery personalised curriculum pathways for each child. This is used to set individual targets and create self-driven students who are ready to take control of their learning. Great emphasis is placed on learning, as the teachers have high expectations whilst allowing students to learn at their own pace, in their preferred learning style using offline and online learning resources.

Our students are supported through carefully designed and targeted intervention strategies. Atlantic Hall students take assessment and diagnostic tests regularly to determine academic potential and attainment. The analysed data from these tests helps refine the child's profile and is also used to inform learner groupings and methods of instruction. The information from these tests is also shared with the students and their parents using appropriate reporting procedures. Should the need arise and when deemed appropriate, weekend intervention lessons are also organised to cater for those students who require extra support to enhance their learning.

The school maintains a population of about 650 students from ages 10 to 17; with a staff /student ratio of 9:1.

Classes are small, usually of about 20 students where the staff can closely monitor the academic ability of each student. Lessons are supported by a carefully constructed 'Prep' timetable and assessment for learning which allows for further discussion between teacher and pupil. Students are encouraged through positive reinforcement to excel.

Whilst high academic standards are a priority, we believe that by educating the whole child, we expose the inherent qualities and potential in each one. We therefore offer a wide range of co-curricular and robust sporting activities. We also encourage our students to explore the spiritual and moral dimensions of life.

One of the several advantages of life in boarding school is the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra - curricular activities. Activities include; Sporting, Arts, Science, Music, Service, Cultural and Leadership.

There are not many students who have been through Atlantic Hall, whose interests have not been aroused by one or more of these activities. The participation in these activities, with the consequent rise in confidence, has the inevitable, positive effect on a student's overall progress and achievements.

Teachers and House staff enthusiastically offer their time to these activities which are complementary and enriching to the academic curriculum. Each student selects 3 activities to participate in during the week and also on weekends. All students must select at least one sport and additional practice sessions are done for students who are in a House or the School team. Each term allows for a level of diversity in and changes to the programme, and the students are encouraged to participate in at least one new activity each term, to try out something they wouldn't typically consider.

These activities are especially important in teaching the benefits of teamwork, co-operation & involvement.
